In 1995, Heather McDermott married David Tokarz, and together they have two wonderful daughters, Allie (married to David Myers) and Hannah (married to Trey McCartney). In 1997, the Tokarz family moved to the Wheatfield area and became members of Sorrowful Mother Church in Wheatfield, IN. Over the course of 23 years, Heather dedicated her career to serving the Town of DeMotte, where she held the roles of Office Manager and Town Manager.
Heather's journey in faith education began in 2004 when she started teaching 3rd grade Faith Formation. This experience led her to become actively involved in youth ministry, where she played a key role in reigniting the program and assisting with the confirmation class. In 2018, she was honored to step into the role of Director of Religious Education at Sorrowful Mother.
In February 2021, Heather expanded her leadership role by becoming part of the North Newton Pastorate Leadership team, where she continues to support and guide the faith community. She loves talking about her faith and takes great joy in seeing others discover the love of Jesus. Heather and David are excited to become grandparents twice in the coming months. Allie and David Myers are expecting their first child in February 2025, and Hannah and Trey McCartney will welcome their little one in September 2024.
